This blog is run by Alex J Gillett an adjunct lecturer and tutor in the philosophy and anthropoloy departments at Macquarie University, Sydney. I completed a PhD in philosophy of cognitive science at Macquarie University in 2018. My thesis examined the conceptual foundations of the distributed cognition framework in cognitive science. My current research focuses on how human spatial cognition is shaped by ontogenetic and phylogenetic factors relating to the acquisition of cultural practices (i.e., enculturated). I have additional interests in the philosophy of science, especially pertaining to the nature of interdisciplinary research. As such, I am interested in both the topic of ‘culture and cognition’, and how it can actually be studied by members of differing academic fields in a fruitful manner.
